Ehlers wanted to know how the village usually dealt with infrastructure projects. Fowler, Fox and Smith explained that in Bellows Falls most of the infrastructure projects tend to be funded through public grant aid and are started by public institutions such as Bellows Falls Area Development Alliance with Robertson Paper Mill project, and the Bellows Falls Opera House.
“Infrastructure is the foundation for everything else,” Ehlers said. He believes the state should be supporting more projects so that it doesn’t fall on the shoulders of Select Boards, and he believes taxpayers would be willing to pay more for infrastructure support.

“Water is the basis for life, and a foundation for our economy,” Ehlers said. “We depend on clean water for everything we do. Vermonters rightly expect their water to be drinkable, swimmable, and fishable. To neglect that, to allow the lakes to be poisoned, is to destroy the very essence of Vermont’s land, culture and health.
The low wage increase coupled with the dramatic rise in health care costs – with some co-pays increasing by 100% – will make it harder for some VSEA members to make ends meet. This is not what we want for our co-workers, our neighbors or ourselves — and it is not what you deserve.
